TOP INVENTIONS OF 2017: PART I

TOP INVENTIONS OF 2017

Human Beings have always sought to facilitate and make themselves more comfortable since the beginning of time. That’s why, year after year, countless discoveries and inventions came to light; and we have adapted many of them to our daily life.
Right from wheel to fire, engine to the automobile, cosmetics to stethoscope everything has created its own impact in the world
The same was the case with last year, now we shall take a look at some of the top inventions of 2017 (w.r.t my personal analysis)

1) SUPER-SUSTAINABLE CROPS
As George Washington rightly quoted “AGRICULTURE IS THE MOST HEALTHFUL, MOST USEFUL AND MOST NOTABLE EMPLOYMENT OF MAN”

·       GreenWave 3D Ocean Farm
As per the Director of GreenWave, the future of farming is growing oysters, mussels, clams and seaweed on ropes anchored to the ocean floor.

HOW DOES IT WORK & ADVANTAGES
3D Ocean Farming consists of horizontal ropes on the water’s surface, anchored to hurricane-proof flats, that connect to lines underwater supporting seaweed crops and interspersed with hanging net enclosures to grow scallops and mussels. Clam and oyster cages, also connected to the surface ropes, sit on the seafloor. This kind of farm is barely visible from the shore. The farm provides significant non-edible benefits as well: it serves as a storm-surge protector and as a habitat for marine wildlife.
Seaweed farming can offset some of the serious problems facing the oceans. Unlike land-based crops, seaweed is what Smith calls “zero-input food” — it requires no additional fresh water, fertilizer, pesticides, feed or soil to grow. It receives everything it needs from the sun and the sea. It grows super-fast. Seaweed improves the marine environment by absorbing dissolved nitrogen and phosphorus, two pollutants that wind up in the ocean via agricultural runoff, and carbon dioxide, which drives ocean acidification and global warming. (Oysters are another good nitrogen remover.) Packed with protein, vitamin C and calcium, seaweed is a nutritious addition to human diets. Finally, it can be used as a potent soil fertilizer and as animal feed.

DISADVANTAGES
1.   Sea Vegetables are a very hard sell
2.   High cost of setup.

2) eSight-3
Scientists, Medical Researchers have been working for decades to cure many visual impairments
eSight is a medical breakthrough that restores the functional sight and allows the visually impaired see the world and change it too.

HOW DOES THIS WORK
After putting the electronic glasses on, eSight allows the wearer to see, almost instantly and in beautiful clarity.

In the most simplistic sense, eSight works in three steps.
1.    The high speed, high-resolution camera in the centre of the device captures what a user is looking at in real time.
2.    This video feed is sent into a powerful computer in the housing of the glasses and is enhanced using proprietary algorithms.
3.    The feed is then projected in colour on the two near-to-eye OLED screens with unprecedented clarity and virtually no latency or delay.

eSighters can then optimize what they are looking at by using the remote to adjust the colour, contrast, focus, brightness and magnification (24x) features. Not only does eSight let wearers actually see, but it also allows them to be truly mobile using the patented Bioptic Tilt Capability. eSighters can tilt the eyewear device to the ideal position for them that can allow the best view of the video feed while maximizing their natural peripheral vision. This, along with short latency, ensures that the eSighter’s balance is not disturbed and no nausea occurs – a common problem faced with immersive technologies such as virtual reality headsets.

Another fun feature about eSight, is it allows individuals to take pictures, and stream video and games by plugging into a laptop, TV or tablet with an HDMI cable, or connecting with Bluetooth or WiFi. That way, whether it is streaming a favourite series at home, taking pictures of notes on the classroom board, or whipping through emails at the office, our eSighters can always be connected.

DISADVANTAGES
·       High Cost

·       Suitable only for a few specified cases

THAT'S ALL, FOR NOW, MY DEAR VIEWERS, BUT  it's STILL NOT YET OVER....
